Amanda Seyfried has recently reaffirmed her decision to turn down the role of Gamora in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise, stating that she doesn’t regret her choice. Seyfried was initially offered the role but declined due to several concerns:
Career Risks: She believed that if the film failed, it could negatively impact her career, as being part of Marvel’s first flop might not be beneficial. She thought the film’s unconventional premise, featuring a talking tree and raccoon, could lead to it being Marvel’s first failure, potentially harming her and Chris Pratt’s future prospects.
Makeup and Green Screen: Seyfried was apprehensive about the extensive makeup required to play a green-skinned alien, drawing parallels with her experiences and those of actors from the “X-Men” franchise. She also mentioned that she had previously worked with green screen and found it not to her liking.
Location and Other Projects: She was hesitant about spending six months in London for filming and had another project lined up with Seth MacFarlane, “A Million Ways to Die in the West,” which she felt was a better opportunity at the time.
Despite her reservations, Seyfried expressed admiration for the film’s director, James Gunn, and acknowledged that her fears were misplaced, as “Guardians of the Galaxy” became a huge success. Zoe Saldaña ultimately took on the role of Gamora and received critical acclaim for her performance. Seyfried remains content with her decision, emphasizing that she made choices based on what felt right for her at the time.
