Stephen Curry, widely regarded as the greatest shooter in NBA history, has achieved another historic milestone by becoming the first player to hit 4,000 career three-pointers. This remarkable feat was accomplished during the Golden State Warriors’ game against the Sacramento Kings on Thursday night.
Curry entered the game needing just two more three-pointers to reach this unprecedented mark. He secured his first of the night midway through the first quarter, thanks to an assist from Jonathan Kuminga, bringing his career total to 3,999 and helping the Warriors take an early lead. However, his next attempt missed the mark.
The crowd at the Chase Center remained electric with anticipation as Curry didn’t get another chance from beyond the arc until late in the second quarter, which he unfortunately missed. Prior to the game, Curry was dealing with back tightness, but he persevered.
Curry finally reached the historic milestone in the third quarter with just over eight minutes left, as he skillfully sidestepped his defender and nailed a deep three-pointer. This prompted loud “MVP” chants and a standing ovation from the Warriors’ fans. The Warriors honored his achievement with a tribute video during the next timeout, featuring current and former players.
Curry finished the game with 11 points as the Warriors dominated the Kings 130-104, improving their season record to 38-28. This milestone comes just a day before his 37th birthday and marks another chapter in his illustrious career, which includes being a four-time NBA champion, two-time MVP, and the NBA’s all-time leader in three-pointers made since surpassing Ray Allen’s record in 2021.
When asked about his thoughts on reaching 5,000 career three-pointers, Curry emphasized living in the moment and appreciating his current achievements. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr praised Curry’s longevity and shooting prowess, noting that such a feat requires incredible endurance and skill.
The Warriors are currently on a hot streak, having won nine of their last ten games since acquiring Jimmy Butler. Curry has been a key beneficiary of Butler’s addition, averaging 30.9 points, 6.2 assists, and 4.4 rebounds since the trade. With the regular season nearing its end, Curry is optimistic about the Warriors’ chances of making a deep playoff run and capturing a fifth championship.
