Michael Fassbender recently shared on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that he inadvertently sabotaged his chance to play James Bond by recommending Daniel Craig for the role during his own audition. Fassbender recalled meeting with producer Barbara Broccoli and mentioning Craig’s name, which he humorously reflected on by saying, “I don’t know why I was promoting him; I should have been promoting myself”.

Fassbender admitted that he never felt like a serious contender for the part and acknowledged that auditions have not been his strong suit. He also shared another audition mishap, where he arrived late for “Mad Max: Fury Road” and described the experience as “excruciating”.

Daniel Craig went on to play Bond in five films, starting with “Casino Royale” in 2006, and Fassbender praised Craig’s performance, calling him “the most successful Bond in history”. When asked about potentially playing Bond in the future, Fassbender seemed pessimistic, stating, “I think that’s done”.

However, Fassbender suggested Regé-Jean Page, his co-star from “Black Bag,” as a potential candidate for the role, describing him as a “frontrunner”. Despite missing out on Bond, Fassbender continues to play a spy in “Black Bag” alongside Cate Blanchett
